The Helios distillery in Okinawa, Japan just keeps on giving! Not only have they produced a fantastic selection of rums and awamori (a type of rice-based drink only produced in Okinawa), but they've also managed to create some of the finest Japanese whisky available today - with their latest blend being no exception.
Kura The Whisky is a blended malt (or as the a label says, a "pure malt"). The whisky is expertly hand crafted using Okinawa Single Rice Whisky aged in selected North American white oak casks for 12 years. Helios make sure to only use the highest quality Indica rice with black Koji unique to Okinawa. They also take pride in their craftmanship which is based on traditional production methods that date back as far as 600 years!
The complex aroma and mellow taste of Kura will give whisky lovers a new appreciation of true local Japanese whisky. Expect notes of toasted oak and soft malt on the nose, with flavours of brown sugar, rye bread and just a touch of bitter grape to finish.
