Boodles Gin 70cl

Originally named after the Pall Mall Gentleman’s Club called Boodles, Boodles Gin used to be enjoyed by Sir Winston Churchill and Ian Fleming. It dates back to 1845 but over time it became increasingly difficult to find. It hadn't been available at all in the UK for a long time, until it was relaunched in 2013.

When tasting, cassia, cinnamon and caraway come through clearly, followed by the rich herbal aromas of the rosemary and sage, and the dry piney juniper and coriander at the end. Smooth throughout with just a small lift of warmth to finish.

Boodles Gin is quite unique in that it does not use any citrus botanicals - a decision made by the original distillers who expected a proper drink to include a slice of lemon or lime. Boodles relies on sage, rosemary and nutmeg for its fresh qualities. It begins as neutral spirit made from British wheat. The liquid is then redistilled in a Carter Head copper still, which allows the botanicals to infuse gradually into the Gin.

Salted Negroni

50ml Boodles Gin
20ml Sweet Vermouth
20ml Bitter Liqueur (e.g. Campari)
30ml grapefruit juice
Sea salt
60ml soda water
Ice

Shake the Gin, Vermouth, Bitter Liqueur and grapefruit juice with a small pinch of sea salt. Strain into a Collins Glass over ice and top up with the soda water. Add another small pinch of sea salt and garnish with grapefruit zest.
