Strawberry Daiquiri

A Daiquiri is the name given to a cocktail where the main ingredients are rum, sugar and lime juice. Different fruits can be added for a twist on the original - with strawberries being the most popular choice.

Jenning Cox, an American engineer working in Cuba, is credited with the creation of the daiquiri, although it's fair to assume that Cuban locals had been cutting their rum with citrus juice and sugar ever since it was first introduced to the Caribbean, mostly to take the edge off! The Daiquiri first appeared in American literature in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s This Side of Paradise in 1920, and Hemingway drank them by the dozen at El Floridita in Havana. The Daquiri further gained popularity in North America in the 1940s when World War II rationing made whiskey and vodka more difficult to come by. As a result, rum stepped in to fill the gap and subsequently skyrocketed in popularity. Throughout the ’40s, ’50s, and beyond, Tiki bars and tropical drinks were all the rage, with the Frozen Daiquiri (and particularly the Strawberry Daiquiri) squarely among them.

This shaken Strawberry Daiquiri is a tasty and refreshing cocktail that's easy to make at home. The sweetness of strawberries and the kick of lime make this classic summer daiquiri a real crowd pleaser!
