French Connection

Essentially an easy-to-drink shooter disguised as a sophisticated cocktail, this French Connection recipe blends cognac and amaretto.

It's classed as an after-dinner cocktail, which is when everyone gathers around to smoke cigars and drink brandy. Think oak panelling, dark furniture, roaring log fires and talking about how the kids these days are getting uppity. Perhaps not, but it's still a good way to enjoy a post-dinner drink, and the flavours combine to create something special.

French Connection

  • Old Fashioned glass
  • 1 single shot of Remy Martin VSOP cognac
  • 1 single shot of Disaronno amaretto
  • Ice

How to serve it

  • Pour the ice into the glass.
  • Pour the spirits into the glass.
  • Stir gently and serve.

Some add more brandy, and occasionally, recipes replace the amaretto with triple sec, such as Cointreau. This creates a much sweeter drink, and it makes it all-French, rather than just a vague connection. If you want to make this French Connection recipe into a long drink, try adding Coke or filling a Collins glass with ginger beer to dilute it down somewhat.
