Dry Martini

An iconic, famous cocktail.

The Dry Martini is historically made with Gin but is now made almost as often with Vodka. See Vodka Martini.

The Gin version contains a perfect balance of Dry Vermouth and Gin. The right proportions are entirely down to personal taste; some prefer 7 parts Gin to 1 part Dry Vermouth, others just one drop. The often misquoted Winston Churchill is supposed to have said "I would like to observe the Vermouth from across the room while I drink my Martini."

The dryness of your Martini refers to the amount of Vermouth used; the less the dryer.

Experimentation to find the perfect balance is highly recommended.
