Bramble Recipe

A modern cocktail with a classic finish, this bramble recipe is ideal as a light refreshment before moving onto the heavier stuff.

The bramble is named after the blackberry bushes that provide this concoction with so much flavour, indeed offsetting the flavour of the alcohol. This creates an easily drinkable cocktail that is great to start off the night, but can be a little lethal later in to the evening since it's so simple to down – not that you should as it's so tasty. The drink is one that was created during the great cocktail revival of the '80s, but unlike many others from that era, it is actually rather nice and not at all overpowering.

Bramble Recipe

  • Old Fashioned glass
  • 1 double shot of Tarquin's blackberry gin
  • 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon of simple syrup
  • Crushed ice
  • Blackberries to garnish

How to serve it

  • Pour the crushed ice into the glass and then pour in the blackberry gin.
  • Add the lemon juice and simple syrup and stir.
  • Garnish with a couple of frozen blackberries.

If you have access to crème de mure (blackberry liqueur), you can substitute the gin in this bramble recipe with any plain gin, such as Tanqueray or Beefeater. If you substitute the gin for a plain one without the crème de mure, it becomes a gin fix.
