St Patrick managed to turn his day into a booze-infused celebration - so we're thinking the same for St George. Ahead of the day of our patron saint this weekend, we're taking a whistle-stop tour around England to see which craft distilleries are producing the best English spirits.
West London - Bimber
Buttery, nutty and fruity with notes of lemongrass and honeyed barley and an extraordinarily soft mouthfeel, Bimber Vodka is distilled in West London from the finest English barley. It’s a delicious expression that proves vodka can deliver great flavour and character when distilled with care and attention - we can't wait to see what else this Distillery cook up in the next couple of months.
Warrington - Thomas Dakin
Named after the man who created the world’s first quality gin, this small batch gin is distilled in Warrington and made with ‘red cole’ which is the old name for horseradish. It tastes smooth, intense and slightly spicy.
Norwich - Bullard's Norwich Dry Gin
Voted the 'Best London Dry Gin in the World' by the World Gin Awards 2017, Bullards Norwich Dry Gin is one of the cleanest, most well-balanced premium gins you can find on the market today and is made at the only gin distillery in Norfolk.
Hampshire - Hampshire Dry Gin
Named as homage to the county in which this gin is created, Hampshire Dry Gin is made with vapour-infused lemons and limes - making this a gentle gin to taste.
Sussex - Mayfield Sussex Hop Gin
Mayfield Sussex Hop Gin is a lively, zesty gin made with Sussex hops (as the name suggests) which provides a floral note with a delicious subtle sweet bitterness.
Central London - City of London Square Mile Gin
A one-shot London dry which recently won a double gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competiton, this woody, nutty and earthy gin has intense pine aromas with notes of basil and eucalyptus followed by creamy citrus and rich juniper.
Kent - Anno Kent Dry Gin
Anno Dry Gin is the first artisan gin to be crafted in Kent since the 1800s, it’s inspired by the Kent countryside and made with botanicals that are sourced locally, including elderflower, rose hips and fresh samphire.
Liverpool - Liverpool Gin
A smooth, aromatic and complex gin created ay the Liverpool Distillery - this gin is 100% organic and they keep their botanical mix a secret.
Yorkshire - Masons Yorkshire Gin Tea Edition
Masons Dry Yorkshire Gin Tea Edition is just about the most Yorkshire gin that you can find - and God’s own county (can you guess where I’m from?) does not disappoint when it comes to this powerful and spicy gin - the robust tea flavour perfectly balances the herbal notes, citrus and gentle spice of Masons Dry Gin.
