Cool Beans! The best tea and coffee flavoured spirits

Tea and coffee flavoured spirits are the stuff of dreams.

From cold pressed Brazilian coffee blended with Honduran rum, to the quintessential English tipple (tea), infused with the National Drink (gin) - what's not to like?

Far more than simply spiking your favourite brew or cup of joe, these spirits boast unique (and may we add, delicious) flavour profiles that offer an alternative to the usual citrus, fruity, floral and sweet flavours of the more traditional variants.

So read on as we count down our top 10 tea and coffee flavoured spirits and how to best enjoy them:

10. MR BLACK COLD PRESS COFFEE LIQUEUR

mr black coffee flavoured liqueurA great coffee starts with great beans and it’s no different for this liqueur. The finest beans, from Ethiopia to Brazil, are roasted to an exact specification and cold-pressed (the ground coffee beans that are steeped in cold water and then strained). This concentrate is then combined with pure Australian Grain spirit to create a dark, rich liqueur with an amazing coffee flavour and hints of toffee and marmalade.

DRINK IT: neat, over ice. Or, stir 40ml with 20ml rye whisky and 10ml campari over ice and a twist of lemon to garnish.

9. PATRÓN XO CAFE TEQUILA

Patron XO Café has unique flavours of rich, dark freshly-roasted coffee with hints of vanilla, coffee and light tequila. It is a more intense and dry coffee tequila, rather than your standard sweet and sometimes sickly coffee liqueurs. A dark rich brown in colour with an aroma of fresh coffee and notes of chocolate and vanilla, this is an excellent sipping tequila.

DRINK IT: The low sugars make Patron XO Café a brilliant premium cocktail ingredient, or as a unique and delicious dessert topping. Swap it in to mix up a darker, unorthodox White Russian.

8. FAIR. CAFE LIQUEUR

Fair cafe liqueur espresso martiniA high-quality spirit that tastes great, and brings a positive impact on the world? Well that can only be a good thing. FAIR create Fair-trade certified spirits that gives back to the farmers they rely on to make their drinks. Fair Café Liqueur uses slow-roasted Arabica beans from Mexico infused with their top quality Quinoa Vodka. The resulting spirit is rich in flavour with a freshly ground coffee palate and flavours of almonds and hazelnuts, a sticky caramel finish and hints of chocolate nougat.

DRINK IT: In the ultimate Espresso Martini. Pour 35ml of FAIR. Quinoa Vodka, 15ml of FAIR. Café Liqueur and a shot of fairtrade espresso into a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake vigorously, strain and garnish with three coffee beans.

7. COPPERHEAD BLACK BATCH GIN

Copperhead Black Batch Gin with ceylon tea

Known as 'The Alchemist's Gin' Copperhead's Black Batch balances black elderberries with black ceylon tea. The tea brings a crispness and aromatic flavour to the gin, meaning its a lot more herbal than traditional releases. This gin is dark and spicy with a citrus kick - an excellent partner to Fever-Tree's Mediterranean Tonic Water, or get experimental in a Negroni.

DRINK IT: In a long drink with tonic, lots of ice and garnished with a few juniper berries and orange zest.

6. DRUMSHANBO GUNPOWDER IRISH GIN

Drumshanbo is another gin that uses tea as a key botanical. This gin is slow distilled by hand in Ireland, and features oriental botanicals including slow-dried gunpowder tea, a form of Chinese green tea which is dried and rolled into small shiny pellets which produces a bright, fresh and slightly spicy flavour. An exotic blend, Drumshanbo also partners well with Fever-Tree Mediterranean tonic, but we prefer ours as per the winner of the Irish Gin and Tonic Festival (see below)

DRINK IT: Serve over ice, topped with Elderflower Tonic Water and a garnish of grapefruit peel and fresh raspberries.

5. V GALLERY COFFEE VODKA

A sweeter inclusion to the list, but this is so damn smooth and sippable that even black coffee drinkers will enjoy an ice cold shot straight out of the freezer, poured over ice. Deliciously light and creamy, this is more "affogato" than dark, rich and decadent. And speaking of affogatos, this works brilliantly poured over ice cream with a shot of espresso...

DRINK IT: Neat. Cold. Or as the vodka of choice in an Espresso Martini - but balance with a darker coffee for the espresso shot in order to avoid sweetness overkill.

4. PATRON XO CAFÉ INCENDIO

patron cafe xo incendioThe Café Incendio takes the original Patrón XO Cafe coffee liqueur and amps up the volume. This combination brings together the sweet, with the bitter and a smokey-spice from the distinctive flavour of the Chile de Arbol pepper often used in hot sauces. Think rich chocolate before a slightly delayed exhilarating kick of spice. It's a hot mess - but in a good way. Think chilli-chocolate-coffee-spice as you sip, and wait for the wake up!

DRINK IT: Chilled over ice. Or add a kick to tequila cocktails.

3. SIPSMITH LONDON CUP

Sipsmith London Cup is the grown-up alternative to Pimm’s. A refreshing and aromatic gin-based cup, inspired by 1800s London's punches and cups, the award-winning Sipsmith Gin is blended with Earl Grey tea, lemon verbena and borage. On the nose, there is a delightful orangey/tea leaves aroma with the herbal notes evident on the palate too. A very interesting tipple that takes tea infusion to the next level

DRINK IT: Pour 35ml over ice in a wine glass and top with lemonade and a wheel of lemon.

2. PIRATE’S GROG BLACK EI8HT COFFEE RUM LIQUEUR

PIRATE’S GROG BLACK EI8HT COFFEE RUM LIQUEUR

What do you get when you blend Pirate's Grog five-year-old Honduran rum with the finest Brazilian cold-brew coffee? In case you hadn't guessed, it's this: Pirate's Grog Black Ei8ht Coffee Rum Liqueur. Not the easiest name to get your mouth around, that all changes with a single sip. Overly sugary drinks - see you later! For here is a liqueur complex in taste with an elegant balance of chocolate, caramel and a hint of toffee.

DRINK IT: Originally created for the perfect Espresso Rumtini, we say sip it straight up over ice as a digestif.

1. MASON'S YORKSHIRE TEA YORKSHIRE GIN

Masons Yorkshire Tea GinYorkshire Tea + Yorkshire Gin = about as Yorkshire as you can get! This unique release offers an abundance of authentic and balanced tea notes, set against the powerful and spicy botanical base of the original Mason's Yorkshire gin. Deliciously smooth and warming, the herbal notes, citrus and gentle spice are complemented by the robust tea flavour. An unusual but outstandingly good little tipple for those who like a proper brew. Try it, and prepare to be converted!

DRINK IT: Surprisingly excellent served simply with lashings of premium tonic, ice and a slice of lemon.
