Healthy cocktails. Bit of an oxymoron really.

The two words conjure up images of gloopy healthy ‘juices’ with a shot of white spirit, dressed up as a real alternative to the wonders of sours, flips and sugar-reliant classic serves. No thank you.

So we were on a mission this January to find healthy cocktails that didn’t include juiced kale. Cocktails that actually had us excited about sipping something that used the word ‘superfood’. And these 7 sensations make the cut, allowing you to detox (a little) without having to give up the good stuff.



Healthy Cocktails: Fairy Tales FAIR Acai Liqueur cocktail Lanes Bar

25ml FAIR Vodka infused with guanabana leaves
25ml FAIR Acai Liqueur
25ml cranberry juice
10 fresh muddled blueberries
Egg white

A green coloured tropical fruit, guanabana (soursop) leaves are purported to have huge medicinal value. They also contain phosphorus, calcium, vitamins and fibre. The leaves are used to infuse FAIR vodka, which is made with the superfood quinoa, to create a cocktail with a wonderful concoction of health-boosting elements. Add to that a measure of FAIR’s new Acai liqueur, made with acai berries that are packed full of antioxidants, amino acids, fibre, essential fatty acids, vitamins and minerals, and you’ve got one of the healthiest, tastiest tipples we’ve ever sipped.

Healthy Cocktails Vitality Vodka Lemon Cocktail

1 cucumber
2 celery stalks
1 lemon
Head of 1 romaine lettuce
1 small piece of fresh ginger
2 green apples
Vodka to taste

Every health blogger's favourite kitchen item (the good old juicer!) comes to play here to create a green juice. But it's not just any old green juice. And it's certainly not the gooey thick sludge made with every green vegetable and fruit that you can get your hands on. It's an unbelievably tasty and refreshing blend, and with a measure of vodka added to taste, this drink has the kind of kick that we love. 50ml coconut water
50ml tonic water
Juice of 1/2 lime

An incredibly simple four-ingredient twist on the Gin & Tonic adds a refreshing, healthy update to a classic. Switching out volume of sugary tonic for naturally-sweet coconut water means an addition of antioxidants, amino acids, enzymes, B-complex vitamins, vitamin C and minerals like iron, calcium, potassium, magnesium, manganese and zinc. 25ml Chambord
4-5 fresh raspberries

Thomson & Scott's Skinny Prosecco boasts all the traits of a traditional Prosecco, but with 50% less sugar. Not only that, but it's organic, suitable for vegans and contains just 67 calories per glass. Combined with raspberries, which are low in calories and fats, this is a healthier way to enjoy fizz cocktails. Raspberries also have significantly high levels of phenolic flavonoid phytochemicals such as anthocyanins, ellagic acid (tannin), quercetin, gallic acid, cyanidins, pelargonidins, catechins, kaempferol and salicylic acid - get your lips around that!

Cucumbers not only contain multiple B vitamins (known to help ease feelings of anxiety and buffer some of the damaging effects of stress) but they are also rich in two of the most basic elements needed for healthy digestion: water and fibre. Together with low-calorie gin, citrus lime and sugar-substitute agave syrup (which has a much lower glycemic index value) this is a delicious, sweet cocktail minus all the bad stuff traditionally associated with sweet, sugary favourites.

10ml Pineapple Infused Vodka
50ml Tonic water
Splash of pineapple juice
Squeeze of lemon

Swap out the creamy, high-calorie elements of the classic cocktail for a tasty alternative that relies on naturally sweetened vodkas to mimic the tropical taste we all love. The pineapple juice boasts a wealth of nutrients, vitamins, and minerals, including potassium, copper, manganese, calcium, magnesium, beta carotene, thiamin, B6, and folate, as well as soluble and insoluble fibre. The addition of lemon is also great for digestion and full of vitamin C.

25ml FAIR Acai Liqueur
15 ml FAIR Vodka
15ml Popcorn syrup
25ml Banana liqueur
125g white yogurt

Whilst the last cocktail on our list features white yoghurt and pop corn syrup, (not TOO naughty...) it again highlights two "superfood spirits" from FAIR. So, whilst not especially low in calories, you're imbibing alcohol that has been expertly infused with the properties of antioxidant-filled acai berries and a vodka that uses the magnesium, iron and protein rich quinoa as its base grain. Full of flavour, full of goodness. Kinda...
