Not sure how to celebrate Día de los Muertos (The Day of The Dead)? Well there’s a few options from the movies. You could chase a criminal mastermind through the streets of Mexico like James Bond. Or journey into the afterlife to search for your long lost family like Coco?

Día de los Muertos is actually a celebration of life that originated in the Aztec era of the 16th Century from the belief that death is not to be feared or avoided, but just another part of life. Which we think is a much nicer way to look at things. Today, many people believe that during Día de Muertos, which takes place November 1st and 2nd, our deceased love ones have divine permission to visit us on earth to enjoy the pleasures of life.

The legend goes that the veil between their world and ours is at its thinnest and if you put up pictures, or trinkets from your loved ones they’ll be able to find you on this day and watch over you. 

In short, despite the face paint and endless sea of skulls Dia de los Muertos is not to be feared, but embraced and celebrated. On the 1st and 2nd of November the dead aren’t scary, they’re your friends and family from long ago who've come back to say hello!

El Diablo

45 ml Patrón Silver
30 ml Fresh lime juice
30 ml Ginger beer
7.5 ml Cassis de Bordeaux
+ Lime wedge for garnish

METHOD
Combine all ingredients except ginger beer in a cocktail shaker and shake with ice to chill.
Strain onto fresh ice in a collins glass.
Top with ginger beer and drizzle Cassis over the top.
Garnish with a lime wedge.
