A timeless cocktail that has been served from around the mid-1800s and one of the simplest cocktails to make. A sugar cube soaked in bitters, a shot of whiskey and an orange peel; it's really that easy. And in my opinion, one of the best ways to enjoy your favourite bourbon or rye whiskey.
A go-to cocktail for those who love whiskey, if you're a traditionalist, have yours with rye, but a bourbon is delicious as well. The sweet, bitter and fruit flavours complement any whiskey you choose.
- 50ml Rye Whiskey or Bourbon
- 1 teaspoon/lump white sugar
- 3 dashes bitters
- Orange wedge
- Maraschino cherry
Place the sugar cube at the bottom or an old-fashioned glass and saturate it with bitters and rush with spoon or muddler. Fill the glass with large ice cubes and add your whiskey, stir well. Garnish with an orange peel and a cherry.
