An iconically famous cocktail.
The Gin version contains a perfect balance of Dry Vermouth and Gin. The right proportions are entirely down to personal taste; some prefer 7 parts Gin to 1 part Dry Vermouth, others just one drop. The often misquoted Winston Churchill is supposed to have said "I would like to observe the Vermouth from across the room while I drink my Martini."
The dryness of your Martini refers to the amount of Vermouth used; the less the dryer.
Experimentation to find the perfect balance is highly recommended.
How to serve it
- In a mixing glass, add the Dry Vermouth and ice.
- Add Gin (or Vodka) and give it a good stir.
- Strain into a Martini glass.
- Garnish with olive on a stick or lemon zest.
