Gin and Tonic
This drink is the epitome of a highball cocktail which typically contains a spirit and carbonate. It was discovered that Quinine, which gives tonic it’s bitter taste, was effective in treating Malaria. The disease was a persistent problem in India and so the popularity of tonic soared. British officers took to adding Gin to the drink to make it more palatable against the bitter taste.
A simple yet refreshing classic.
How to serve it
- In a Collins glass filled with ice, add Gin and top up with tonic.
- Stir and squeeze a lime wedge into the drink.
