Hola amigos! George Clooney's Casamigos Tequilas have landed!
Longtime friends George Clooney and Rande Gerber love Tequila: “Our idea was to make the best-tasting, smoothest tequila around. So we did.”
George and Rande get stuck in with the labelling lark
They've been best friends for 20 years, and Tequila-filled nights (Tequila on the rocks, by the shot and at times, straight from the bottle) led to the creation of multi-award-winning Casamigos. They wanted to make the best-tasting, smoothest Tequila that didn't have flavours requiring masking with salt or lime.
The Tequila was made just for them and was never intended to be sold commercially. They worked on its creation with their master distiller in Jalisco, Mexico for years, and held numerous blind tastings until they got it right, starting with the Reposado. They’ve been drinking their Tequila with friends and family for more than five years, and it’s all they serve at their homes in Mexico - it’s literally their house tequila.
In fact, the name comes from the twin holiday homes that George and Rande – with wife of 16 years, Cindy Crawford – built together. They called their property and later their Tequila 'Casamigos', meaning House of Friends.

Shortly after deciding to make Casamigos available to the public, George and Rande sat down with a bottle of their 'house Tequila' at Rande’s Café Habana in Malibu, to work out their new business venture.
After polishing off the entire bottle, they took a taxi to Rande's, where George was offered the spare room. “Sometimes when I come home buzzed or a little bit drunk, I’ll sleep in one of my kids’ rooms,” admits Rande. “And I had walked into the master bedroom and noticed that they were in bed with Cindy, so I went in my son’s room and fell asleep in there.”
With no sign of her husband at 2am, Cindy checked the spare room, where she saw a fully clothed man; Tequila bottle on top of the covers. “She gets into the bed, rubs my back, and says, ‘Hey, babe, why don’t you get undressed and into bed?’ And with that, George turned his head, and Cindy saw that it was him in there,” Rande continues. “George thought he'd stumbled into the master bedroom and gotten into our bed!”
After Cindy had found Rande in their son’s room and relayed the embarrassing story, they heard someone padding around downstairs. “I went to the kitchen,” Rande says. “We have this junk drawer full of candy and chips and stuff. And we started just munching out, hysterically laughing. When Cindy came down a little while later, George said, ‘That’s our ad campaign! ‘Drink Casamigos and wake up with Cindy Crawford!’ And she replied, ‘No–Drink Casamigos and wake up with George Clooney!’ ”
