Ever since the 2014 debut of emojis, online communication has been a brighter, more joyful experience. Why type out the words "Let's get a drink" when you can simply send the red wine glass emoji?
There is even a whole day now dedicated to celebrating the technological wonder, with July 17 (the date permanently displayed on the calendar emoji) marking 'World Emoji Day'. To properly honour the occasion, it's only right to mix up one of three real-life cocktails inspired by the cute characters.
Instyle USA called on the help of NYC-based bartender and mixologist Matthew Houlihan to use Cachaça to create three concoctions that are pretty much identical to their emoji counterparts. We adapted his recipes slightly for the UK market and to introduce other spirits (because you can really only do so much with Cachaça...)
Check out the recipes below [insert clinking beer mugs emoji here]!
1. The Quintessential Martini
Inspired by the Martini Glass emoji.
Combine ingredients into a mixing glass and stir with cubed ice until cocktail is chilled well. Strain into a coup glass. Garnish with an olive.
2. Pearl Diver
Inspired by the Tropical Drink emoji.
- 50ml Cachaça
- 15ml Orange Juice
- 25ml Passion Fruit Juice
- 15ml Grenadine
- Lime wedge for garnish
Pour grenadine to the bottom of a hurricane glass and fill with crushed ice. Combine the Cachaça, orange juice, and passion fruit juice in a shaker and shake lightly. Pour over the ice. Garnish with a lime wedge.
3. Cherry Lemon Blossom
Inspired by the Shaved Ice emoji.
Combine cranberry juice, limoncello, Absolut Citron vodka, lemonade and lime cordial in a cocktail shaker. Add a handful of ice and shake vigorously to chill. Pour over crushed ice and drizzle with Luxardo Cherry Sangue Morlacco.
